Craggar Such a great first album. Signs & Wonders stood out to me as a particularly notable track, but the whole album is fantastic. It's really varied, and crucially I don't think there's much else like TGP in the post-rock space. I'm so glad I found my way here from the Mogwai Tribute compilation. Favorite track: Signs & Wonders.

about

"a truly great release" - Post-Rock Central
"drips with catharsis... an album that you can feel in your gut, beautiful in the same way it is painful" - Veil of Sound
"atmospheric beauty" - Echoes and Dust
"A dazzling masterpiece" - Check & Choice

The tracks on this album were written and recorded between autumn 2020 and summer 2021, at my kitchen table (mostly), with studio equipment consisting of a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, a smartphone and a pair of headphones.

The project started out as an experiment. I’d dabbled in songwriting before over the years, but always on guitar (and never with great results). Then, in 2017, I had to stop playing after a brain haemorrhage left me with slight coordination problems in my right hand. So when I decided to give music another shot in 2020, I knew I was going to have to work electronically.

Starting out, I had very few preconceptions about what I was trying to achieve, or even about what genre I was going to be working in. But it felt natural to begin by writing chord progressions ‘for guitar’ using virtual instruments, and from there the Glass Pavilion sound started to take shape.

There’s no way around the fact that this album is the product of a difficult time in my life; not just the haemorrhage, but also medical complications, surgery, and the loss of my father. But it’s not a despairing, ‘share my pain’ album, or at least I hope it’s not. I hope it’s music people might be happy to escape into, the way I did while I was making it.

The Glass Pavilion England, UK

The Glass Pavilion is the instrumental project of English musician Ashley Owens. It was begun in 2020 after a brain haemorhage forced Ashley to give up guitar and begin working electronically. As The Glass Pavilion, he blends virtual rock instruments with synth elements to create an atmospheric, psych-tinged sound with elements of post-rock and shoegaze. ... more
